Starlink, the low-orbit satellite broadband service set up by Elon Musk’s SpaceX company, was first prototyped in 2018 and became available for USA customers in late 2020. SpaceX plans to have thousands of low-orbit satellites forming a global cluster to deliver Internet services.

Starlink network will be the most suitable for remote areas around the globe. Starlink can provide reliable broadband Internet for rural, regional, and remote areas in Australia where Internet access was unavailable before.

Starlink will become available for Australian and New Zealand customers in mid to late 2021. Pricing for the monthly subscription in Australia is $139 a month, providing speeds between 50 to 150 Mbps and latency somewhere between 20 to 40 milliseconds. In addition, Starlink’s kit, which includes a mounting tripod, a WiFi router, and a terminal, will cost $709.  Availability will be limited, as orders will be fulfilled on a “first-come, first-served” basis.
